CNC Machining of a Steel Gear Box

CNC Machining of a Steel Gear Box for the Wind Energy Industry

At Standard Machine, Inc., our professional, hardworking staff has a diverse range of capabilities that enables us to meet our customers exacting production demands. We machined the steel gear box pictured here for use in a wind energy application. Working with the customer's specifications, we first compiled a comprehensive manufacturing plan that detailed all of the required machining, assembly, and inspection processes.

This gear box assembly features overall dimensions of 39" in width, 108" in length, and 75" in height. Primary operations consisted of machining the A-36 structural steel components on our planer mill and horizontal boring center. Our large capacity equipment allowed us to achieve the wide range of bore sizes called for in the specification as well as precision ±0.001" tolerances. Having high-bay lifting equipment allowed us to easily move components to the various workstations within our facility. We machined this highly detailed work piece, and then carefully inspected it according to our defined process plan.

Our high quality workmanship guarantees long life, reliable performance of this gear box under the extreme conditions of this application. Having a highly organized and documented manufacturing strategy enabled us to complete this project within a 4 week time frame. If you have a similar project and would like to discuss the details, please contact us today.
